My Thing. Caroline Dickinson, textile designer & artist.

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
I try and capture the emotion of a moment and how it felt to be somewhere. I hope people feel that sense of holiday nostalgia and the pieces spark their own feelings and memories.

Caroline is a London based textile designer and artist creating versatile pieces of limited edition wearable art, inspired by a love of coastal landscapes and faraway Summer climates. Caroline lives by a lifestyle to buy less but better and creates pieces to invest in, designed to be treasured and used in more than just one way, letting the individual decide the purpose depending on their style or needs. The result is a collection of silk scarves that migrate from wardrobe to walls. To be worn throughout the years as your style changes and evolves or framed and hung on your wall as a statement piece of art.

The ‘One Thing’ I want to be known for

Creating versatile pieces that people can love and treasure but be creative with and use in entirely different ways.

The ‘One Thing’ I care about deeply

That an item shouldn’t just have one purpose or life cycle.

The ‘One Thing’ I want to inspire in others

To get creative when it comes to simple wardrobe items and to think outside the box when it comes to what you can put in a frame or have on your walls as artwork. It doesn’t always have to be paper or a canvas and I love that!

The ‘One Thing’ I enjoy most about the creative process

I’ve always enjoyed the starting point to creating the artwork, spending time collecting images for inspiration which usually consists of me looking over old or recent travel photos, leading to small little memories and moments flooding back. It’s basically a wonderful chance to have a little daydream and remember what it felt like to be there again. The process gets my brain into a nice creative, nostalgic mindset that helps me when I’m painting and making the collages – which is the next stage.

The ‘One Thing’ I want others to feel when they engage with my work

I try and capture the emotion of a moment and how it felt to be somewhere. I hope people feel that sense of holiday nostalgia and the pieces spark their own feelings and memories.
